Unique among regions in England, the North West has had a dedicated HIV/AIDS monitoring unit since 1996, which has presented the changing face of HIV epidemiology over the years. Over time, this has become a valuable data resource. This volume represents the first time that ten years of HIV/AIDS data from the North West have been collated, and provides an overview of the changing patterns and developments of the local epidemic. Along with a foreword provided by Professor Mark Bellis (director of the Centre for Public Health based at Liverpool John Moores University) and Professor Qutub Syed ( North West Regional Director Health Protection Agency), individual chapters feature aspects of the epidemic and issues for treatment and prevention. It also highlights other issues in HIV that may not have previously been recognised. In addition, chapters contain personal views, or ‘vignettes’, from professionals directly working in the area providing great insight into how HIV and AIDS is viewed and managed at the front line.
